Q: How do I rent a boat on Ship O´Hoi?

Renting a boat on Ship O´Hoi is easy. Search for boats in your area, select the one that suits your needs, and send a request to the owner. Once approved, pay securely through the platform and arrange pickup of the boat.

Q: Do I need a boating license to rent a boat?

In Norway, people born on or after 1 January 1980 must have a boating licence (båtførerbevis) to operate a recreational boat that is over 8 metres long or has an engine larger than 25 hp. People born before 1 January 1980 are exempt from the boating licence requirement and may operate recreational boats up to 15 metres in length, as long as the boat cannot reach 50 knots or more. For recreational boats, including jet skis, that can reach 50 knots or more, a high-speed certificate (høyhastighetsbevis) is required in addition to any applicable boating licence requirements. We still recommend that everyone operating a boat has basic knowledge of navigation, sea rules, and safety.

Q: What is included in the rental price?

What is included varies between owners. Typically the rental price includes use of the boat with safety equipment like life jackets. Fuel is usually not included unless otherwise agreed. Always check the listing for details.

Q: How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during peak season (June-August). Popular boats in popular areas can be booked up weeks in advance. For weekends and holiday periods, book at least 1-2 weeks ahead.

Q: Is it safe to rent a boat through Ship O´Hoi?

Yes, Ship O´Hoi offers secure payment through the platform, verified owners and insurance options. All transactions are secured, and you can communicate directly with the owner through the platform messaging system.

Q: Can I rent a boat with a skipper?

Yes, many owners offer boats with a skipper. This is a great option if you lack boating experience or simply want to relax while someone else takes the helm. Use the skipper filter in the search.

Q: What happens in bad weather?

Safety always comes first. In bad weather you can contact the owner to arrange postponement or cancellation. Ship O´Hoi has guidelines for weather cancellations – always check the terms of your booking.
