Boating along the Bærum coast
Bærum's coastline faces the inner Oslofjord to the south-east, from Lysaker on the Oslo border to Sandvika in the west. Listed boats are kept at several points along it, including Strand near Høvik, Lakseberget in Sandvika and Gyssestad Båtforening, and more come from Oslo. On the Fornebu side, Oksenøya Marina in Holtekilen has a fuel station and a guest harbour.
Much of this coast is islands. Kalvøya, just off Sandvika, is a popular swimming island; Borøya, south of it, is a nature reserve with dry limestone grassland and calcareous pine forest; and Ostøya and Kjeholmen lie off Høvikodden. The rules for going ashore under the right to roam are in where boats may land in the Oslofjord.
Two things to know before you leave: - No fishing. Since 1 January 2026 the whole inner Oslofjord, including all of Bærum's coast, has been closed to fishing all year, both commercial and recreational. Crabbing with a line for children is still allowed. - Speed. The municipal regulation limits boats to 5 knots in a 200 m band along land and islands and to 25 knots in open water, and it adds larger 5-knot areas around Ostøya, Borøya and Snarøysundet.
