Tønsberg: the Kanalen and the fjord to the south
Tønsberg itself has some of the listed boats, among them a day cruiser in a large marina with fuel pumps, and a big RIB lies at Tolvsrød across the water. The others are spread around the district: on Nøtterøy and Tjøme in Færder, at Stokke, in Åsgårdstrand and Horten to the north, and across the fjord at Larkollen. They range from a small open boat to day cruisers, RIBs and a sailing yacht. The guest harbour on the town quay is a place to visit by boat, not a pickup point.
Tønsberg's inner fjord, Byfjorden, ends at the Ilene wetland reserve. To the east, the narrow Kanalen leads out towards the Oslofjord under Kanalbrua, a bascule bridge with about 3 m of clearance, the lowest over any Norwegian fairway. In summer it usually opens five times a day, so anything taller has to time its passage.
