Nøtterøy, Vestfold's largest island
At 44 km², Nøtterøy is the largest island in Vestfold, rising to 101 m, with Årøysund, Glomstein and Kjøpmannskjær among its villages. A small open boat is listed on the island itself; the others belong to owners on neighbouring Tjøme, in Tønsberg and Tolvsrød, and across the fjord in Hem, Stokke and Sandefjord.
Knarberg Båthavn keeps a few guest berths, 4–5 m deep, at the outer end of its north pontoon, with showers and a pump-out station. Søndre Årøy, at the eastern end of Vrengensundet, is a natural harbour where boats anchor on clay in 5–15 m. Off the island stands Fulehuk lighthouse, first lit in 1821 and, in 1841, the first in Norway with a fog bell; volunteers now run it as a coastal shelter for visitors. At Knarberg, expect some swell from passing boats while you lie alongside, and slow to 5 knots in Håøyasundet.
