Šibenik is the gateway to two of Croatia's national parks: the Kornati archipelago out at sea and the Krka river inland. Most charter yachts leave from D-Marin Marina Mandalina, a few minutes from the old town, or from Marina Kremik in Primošten, a short drive south; others start at ACI Marina Skradin on the Krka river. Within a day you can be at anchor among the Šibenik islands – Zlarin, Prvić and Žirje – or among the bare, stone islands of the Kornati. Sailing from Šibenik: Kornati, Krka and the islands
Few charter bases have as much variety within a day's sail: a river canyon, an island national park and a string of small inhabited islands.
The Šibenik channel and islands
You leave the city through the narrow St Anthony channel, past the Fortress of St Nicholas. Outside lie Zlarin, Prvić, Kaprije and Žirje – small islands with quiet harbours, konobas and good anchorages for the first night.
Kornati National Park
The Kornati are a maze of 89 islands, islets and reefs, mostly bare stone and almost uninhabited. There is no fresh water or shop on most of them, so stock up before you go, and buy the park ticket in advance.
Krka and Skradin
Upriver, past the old town and under the bridge, the Krka river leads through a canyon to Skradin. Moor there for the night and visit the waterfalls early, before the day visitors arrive.
Choosing a boat

Renting a yacht in Šibenik
Šibenik's charter fleet is concentrated in one place, Marina Mandalina. It has 452 berths and was designed for superyachts up to 70 m, so next to the sailing yachts and catamarans you will find an unusually large share of motor yachts, many of them offered with crew.
Every trip starts the same way. To reach open sea, boats pass through the St Anthony Channel, a protected landscape just over 2 km long and 140 to 220 m wide, with St Nicholas' Fortress at its mouth.
The river is the other option. Yachts can head up the Krka to ACI Marina Skradin, open all year below the town, keeping to starboard between red and green lights as the river narrows to about 100 m and then 80 m. Your own boat stops there: to reach the Skradinski buk waterfalls you hire a boat in Skradin with a national park boatman.
