Sandefjord's fjords and islands by boat
Only some of the boats on this page are in Sandefjord itself. An owner keeps a cabin cruiser at Kjerringvik, at the outer end of the Sandefjordsfjord, and others are in the town and in Stokke. The rest belong to owners along the neighbouring coast: around Larvik, for example at Hølen Båthavn, in Stavern, and on Tjøme and Nøtterøy. Nearly all are small to mid-sized motorboats, from open boats and RIBs to cabin cruisers, and a few owners come along as skipper.
Sandefjord has a 146 km coastline and about 124 islands. The Sandefjordsfjord runs some 9 km from the town to the sea, and the Mefjorden is its neighbour on the far side of the Vesterøya peninsula, with Østerøya beyond. Out towards the open water, the Stauper islands form a small archipelago of ten larger islands and many skerries, and several islets have beaches that are easy to land on. Langøya is the largest island in the municipality. In town, the whale catcher Southern Actor lies at the wharf of the Whaling Museum.
