Tjølling: Viksfjord, Kaupang and Kjerringvik
Tjølling is the part of Larvik between the Numedalslågen river and the Sandefjordsfjord, south of the E18, and it was a municipality of its own until 1988. Its coast is lined with beaches and coves and is popular cabin country, and its best-known outports are Ula and Kjerringvik. The side fjord Viksfjord reaches about 7 km inland past Vikerøya, and by one of its inlets stood Kaupang, the Viking-age market place regarded as Norway's first town.
A cabin cruiser listed under Sandefjord is in fact moored at Kjerringvik. Other owners keep their boats at Hølen Båthavn and elsewhere in Larvik, in Stavern and Sandefjord, at Hem and on the islands of Tjøme and Nøtterøy.
Larvik's speed rules are straightforward: 5 knots within 100 m of land, islands, islets and skerries in the fairways, and up to 30 knots further out. Harbours all along this coast are in our Larvik, Stavern and Sandefjord guide.
