Bodø: from the town harbour to Saltstraumen
The boats listed for Bodø are spread along the Saltfjord. A 28-foot sailing boat with four to five berths lies at the breakwater in the town harbour, and an open fishing boat is based at Skivik harbour, where the owner comes along as skipper. A small day cruiser is on Tverlandet at Løding, about 20 minutes from Bodø by road. Its owner puts it roughly ten minutes by boat from Saltstraumen.
Saltstraumen, about 10 km south-east of the town, is a strait 3 km long and 150 m wide. Every six hours up to 400 million m³ of water pour through it between the Saltfjord and the Skjerstadfjord, forming whirlpools up to 10 m across. The strait can only be navigated when the current turns, and the pilot book times the current from high tide at Bodø, so check the tide table before you go.
