Halsa on the Skardsfjorden
Halsa is a small village in southern Meløy, on county road 17 (the Kystriksveien) and across the fjord from Ågskardet. It lies inside the island of Esøya on the Skardsfjorden, with a church from 1960 that serves the southern part of the municipality. No boat is kept in Halsa itself. Boats listed under Meløy include an open boat and a day cruiser whose owner can come as skipper, and a fishing boat with VHF and a chart plotter is on Omnøya. Fuel and cleaning are included on that one.
From the Skardsfjorden, the Holandsfjorden runs about 25 km inland from Forøy to Kilvik. Near its head is Engen, where the glacier arm Engabreen comes down towards the fjord.
Road 17 crosses the outer Holandsfjorden by car ferry between Ågskardet and Forøy, and Hurtigruten runs day trips from the Skardsfjorden up to Engen, so keep a lookout in the fairway.
