Renting a boat in Inndyr: Sørfjorden in Gildeskål
Inndyr is the administrative centre of Gildeskål, about 35 km south-west of Bodø as the crow flies, on the east side of Sørfjorden. The village centre sits by Inndyrsvågen, a harbour that in summer is busy with visitors and boaters, and express boats call at the quay.
An 18 ft open console boat for up to six is based here, set up for fishing with a chartplotter and echo sounder, a jigging reel and a grapnel anchor. It is let only by the day or week.
The name points to the sea: the first part means inner, for the village on the inside of Sørfjorden, and the last part probably comes from an old word for doorways, after the gaps in the chain of islands on the west side that open onto Fugløyfjorden and the open sea. The limestone ground around Inndyr is known for its many kinds of orchid.
