Small boats on Meløya, the island behind the name

The boats for Meløy are listed on Meløya, an island of 21.8 km² south-west of Ørnes. It gave its name to the whole municipality and was its administrative seat until 1952, when the offices moved to Ørnes. Meløy church, a wooden church from 1867, still stands on the island, which has ferry and express-boat connections.

Boats here include a small open boat that stands ready on its trailer and a cabin boat with a 140 hp engine and a bow cabin. Petrol is extra.

The sea around is thick with islands: Meløy counts 755 large and small ones. To the south, Holandsfjorden runs about 25 km inland and is best known as the way to Engabreen, an arm of the Svartisen glacier that can be seen from the fjord.
