Renting a boat in Nordfold on the Nordfolda fjord
Nordfold is a village on the north side of Nordfolda in Steigen, Salten. It was the centre of the old Nordfold municipality from 1906 to 1964, and until the Steigen tunnel opened in 1991 a car ferry ran from here across to Røsvik. An open touring and fishing boat with room for five and a 20 hp engine is kept at Hestvikneset in the village.
Nordfolda runs north-east from its mouth at Hjartøya and continues as Mørsvikfjorden, 46 km in all to Mørsvikbotn. Three arms branch off it: Balkjosen to the north, Brattfjorden to the east and Vinkfjorden to the south-east. The narrow sound between Hjartøya and the mainland is called Mulfjorden.
The farms along the south shore, such as Mulen, Slåttvika, Vinkenes and Stavnes, have no road connection.
