Renting a boat in Vågan: Henningsvær and beyond
Some of the boats on this page are in Henningsvær, the fishing village in Vågan built on the islets of Heimøya and Hellandsøya off the south-west tip of Austvågøya. Among them are a fast aluminium boat with a large outboard and a steady 14-foot dinghy, which its owner recommends for short trips nearby on calm days. Another, a small open boat on a trailer, is across Henningsværstraumen on Vestvågøy.
The breakwater between the two main islands, finished in 1934, shelters the harbour from south-westerly weather. One of the world's richest fishing grounds lies just south of the village, and stockfish is still its main export, so it is a natural base for a fishing trip. By sea, Svolvær is about 10 nautical miles away. Our six Lofoten routes include the approach to Henningsvær between the islets.
