Renting a boat in Øksnes: from Stø at the tip of Langøya
Øksnes is a fishing municipality in Vesterålen, with Myre as its centre. A fishing and touring boat with a small cabin forward is listed here; its map pin is at Stø, the fishing village on the northern tip of Langøya.
Stø has a fish landing station, a shop and a café, and in summer it is the base for whale, seal and bird safaris. Geitberget, 313 m, rises on its south side, and the sandy beach of Skipssanden lies on the west side. Along the coast is Nyksund, a fishing village spread over two islands joined by a 65 m breakwater. Abandoned around 1970, it has since been revived by artists and visitors, and the Dronningruta trail links it with Stø.
Several small islands and holms north of Nyksund and Stø are nature reserves, important for seabirds and harbour seals, so check the rules before landing there.
