Bogen in Ofoten and the boats nearby

Bogen, the administrative centre of Evenes, sits at the head of the bay of the same name, which runs 8 km north from the Ofotfjord. During the Second World War the Germans had a large naval base here, and the battleship Tirpitz lay in the bay for a time.

The boats on this page are based elsewhere on the fjord. One is a small 12-foot boat at Ankenes, on the south side of the Beisfjord opposite Narvik. Another is a workboat with a fishing reel, autopilot, chart plotter and echo sounder at Ballangen, further west on the south shore.

The Ofotfjord runs about 70 km from Barøy lighthouse to Bjerkvik and has six side arms: Efjorden, Vargfjorden, Ballangen, Skjomen, Beisfjorden and Rombaken. Sea trout run in the Tårstad and Bogen river systems, and shore anglers fish from the rocks at Evenestangen.
