What is Ship O’Hoi?

Renting a small boat in Ankenes, across the Beisfjord from Narvik

Ankenes is the part of Narvik on the south side of the Beisfjord, strung out along the E6 below Ankenesfjellet from Emmenestangen in the west to the Beisfjord bridge in the east. The fjord opens between Framnesodden and Ankenes. Its outer basin, Narvikbukta, is about 2 km wide, and at the bridge it narrows to about 230 m over the shallow Fagernesstraumen.

A 12 ft open boat with a 9.9 hp outboard for up to three is kept by the Ankenes mole, a boat for calm days near the shore rather than the open Ofotfjord.

Across the water lies an ore port. Narvik has shipped iron ore from the Kiruna mines since 1902, and the ore and container quays are on the north shore at Fagernes, so give the large ships plenty of room.
