Renting a boat in Narvik: a small boat at Ankenes

A small open boat for up to three people with a 9.9 hp outboard is listed for Narvik. It is kept at Ankenes, on the south side of Beisfjorden facing the town, a shore where people once rowed across to work in Narvik; a bridge has linked the two sides since 1943, carrying the E6 today.

Narvik stands on a peninsula between two southern arms of the Ofotfjord: Beisfjorden, 11.5 km long, and Rombaken, 20 km. Ankenesleira, a natural shore just west of the boathouses, is the last untouched stretch of that old landing beach and has bathing areas.

Narvik is an ice-free port that ships iron ore from the Swedish mines, so expect large bulk carriers in the fjord. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority advises against eating shellfish from Beisfjorden and Narvik harbour inside a line drawn between the Ankenes small-boat harbour and Framnesodden.
