Hadsel: a cabin cruiser at Melbu
Hadsel is the southernmost municipality in Vesterålen, spread over parts of four large islands: Hadseløya, Hinnøya, Langøya and Austvågøy. Stokmarknes is the administrative centre, while Melbu lies on the south side of Hadseløya, facing the Hadselfjorden. Since 1967 the Melbu–Fiskebøl ferry has crossed that fjord, linking Vesterålen with Lofoten.
A 28 ft cabin cruiser is based at Melbu, with berths for four overnight or room for six on a day trip. It cruises at about 19 knots and has a bow thruster with remote control, a fridge and a heater, and its canopy and large deck let you fish while staying dry.
Trollfjorden, one of the landmarks of Hadsel, is only about 2 km long and 100 m wide at its narrowest, with a shallow inner end where you must slow right down. Our Lofoten guide describes the trip.
