Renting a boat in Lavrion: questions and answers
What does it cost to rent a boat in Lavrion?
Charter yachts cost from €1,250 per week, typically €3,850 per week (240 yachts with a price). Prices vary by date and season, and each boat shows the exact price for your dates.
Can I rent a boat with a skipper in Lavrion?
Yes. At least 31 of the boats on this page can be rented with a skipper or captain, so nobody in your group has to drive.
How many people can come along on a rental boat in Lavrion?
The largest boat here takes up to 30 people, and a typical boat takes 10.
Do I need a boat licence in Greece?
Not for a small motorboat: in Greece an outboard of up to 30 hp is licence-free on a conventional hull, but only up to 15 hp on a RIB or V-hull. To charter a yacht bareboat the skipper needs a recognised licence, and the ICC is the safest choice; with a hired skipper nobody on board needs one. Read our full licence guide.
Frequently asked questions

Why start a Cyclades charter in Lavrion?
Lavrion sits at the south-eastern tip of Attica, about 40 minutes by car from Athens International Airport. Starting here instead of in Athens saves most of a day's sailing: the western Cyclades begin just across the channel, with Kea first and Kythnos close behind.
Boats sail from two bases a few hundred metres apart, Olympic Marina and Lavrion's main port. Both are listed together on this page.
A week in the Cyclades from Lavrion
A classic one-week loop runs Kea – Kythnos – Syros – Tinos or Mykonos and back, or south through Serifos and Sifnos. Sailors with two weeks can reach Paros, Naxos and the Small Cyclades.
Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon lie just south of the port, a good last stop before you return.
The meltemi: plan for the wind
In July and August the meltemi, a strong northerly wind, blows across the Aegean and can reach force 6–7 in the afternoons. Crossings from Lavrion are short, but the Cyclades are open water. Plan passages for the morning, keep a rest day in hand, or take a skipper if your crew is new to it. May, June and September usually bring lighter winds and quieter harbours.
Bareboat, skippered or crewed
For a bareboat charter in Greece, the skipper needs a recognised licence such as the ICC, and a second crew member needs sailing experience. Many Lavrion yachts can also be booked with a skipper. Most boats are chartered by the week, Saturday to Saturday, and each listing shows the price and availability for your dates. See all yacht charters in Greece.
Lavrion: the charter port facing the Cyclades
Lavrion lies about 60 km south-east of Athens, yet Olympic Marine is only about 30 minutes from Athens airport by road. Boats on this page are split between Olympic Marine, which works on VHF channel 9, and berths in Lavrion's main port. Nearly all are sailing yachts and catamarans on weekly charter, from small cruisers for a couple to large catamarans for groups.
What makes Lavrion different is the direction it faces. Kea, the Cycladic island closest to Attica, is about an hour away by ferry, and the rest of the Cyclades open up beyond it. Closer by, Cape Sounion with the Temple of Poseidon marks the southern tip of Attica just down the coast. For an island loop, our Cyclades itinerary from Lavrion sets one out day by day.
Plan around the wind. The meltemi, the Etesian wind of the Aegean, blows from about mid-May to mid-September, can reach force 7 to 8, is usually strongest in the afternoon and comes in clear weather without warning. In the central Aegean it is mostly a northerly. If nobody on board has open-water experience, a skippered yacht is worth considering for July and August.
