Lavrion is the closest charter base to the Cyclades. From Olympic Marina and the town port on the tip of Attica, Kea is only about 12 nautical miles away, so your first evening can already be spent in an island harbour. Compare sailboats, catamarans and motor yachts from both bases below, bareboat or with a skipper.

Why start a Cyclades charter in Lavrion?

Lavrion sits at the south-eastern tip of Attica, about 40 minutes by car from Athens International Airport. Starting here instead of in Athens saves most of a day's sailing: the western Cyclades begin just across the channel, with Kea first and Kythnos close behind.

Boats sail from two bases a few hundred metres apart, Olympic Marina and Lavrion's main port. Both are listed together on this page.

A week in the Cyclades from Lavrion

A classic one-week loop runs Kea – Kythnos – Syros – Tinos or Mykonos and back, or south through Serifos and Sifnos. Sailors with two weeks can reach Paros, Naxos and the Small Cyclades.

Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon lie just south of the port, a good last stop before you return.

The meltemi: plan for the wind

In July and August the meltemi, a strong northerly wind, blows across the Aegean and can reach force 6–7 in the afternoons. Crossings from Lavrion are short, but the Cyclades are open water. Plan passages for the morning, keep a rest day in hand, or take a skipper if your crew is new to it. May, June and September usually bring lighter winds and quieter harbours.

Bareboat, skippered or crewed

For a bareboat charter in Greece, the skipper needs a recognised licence such as the ICC, and a second crew member needs sailing experience. Many Lavrion yachts can also be booked with a skipper. Most boats are chartered by the week, Saturday to Saturday, and each listing shows the price and availability for your dates. See all yacht charters in Greece.
