Fornebu: the old airport peninsula by boat
Until 1998 Fornebu was Oslo's main airport. Today the peninsula in Bærum sits between Lysakerfjorden and Holtekilen, and two large marinas, Fornebu Marina and Oksenøya Marina, fill the Holtekilen side. The rental boats shown on this page, though, belong to private owners around the inner fjord and are collected in Oslo, Høvik, Sandvika, Slependen, Asker or on Nesøya, mostly RIBs, small motorboats and day cruisers.
Around the peninsula there are two good places to swim from a boat. Storøyodden holds a Blue Flag and has a summer kiosk. Rolfstangen, at the south-eastern tip by Snarøya, has two sandy beaches, but it is best avoided after heavy rain, when sewage can overflow.
Keep clear of Storøykilen. This nature reserve is closed to all boats all year, including rowing boats and canoes, and you may not anchor or moor there. Through Snarøysund the limit is 5 knots. For more ideas close to the city, see our 10 easy boat trips from Oslo.
