Can I rent a boat with a skipper in Zakynthos?
Yes. 3 of the 11 boats on this page can be rented with a skipper or captain, so nobody in your group has to drive.
How many people can come along on a rental boat in Zakynthos?
The largest boat here takes up to 25 people, and a typical boat takes 10.
Do I need a boat licence in Greece?
Not for a small motorboat: in Greece an outboard of up to 30 hp is licence-free on a conventional hull, but only up to 15 hp on a RIB or V-hull. To charter a yacht bareboat the skipper needs a recognised licence, and the ICC is the safest choice; with a hired skipper nobody on board needs one. Read our full licence guide.

Zakynthos: yachts and gulets beside the turtle park
The listings here give their base simply as Zante, the Venetian-era name that Zakynthos still goes by. It is the third-largest of the Ionian Islands, 405 km² with 123 km of coastline. Alongside the sailing yachts and catamarans, which you can take bareboat or with a hired skipper, there are several traditional gulets, and the minimum charter is seven days.
Two very different coasts are within reach. In the south, Laganas Bay and the Strofadia islets make up the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, known as one of the most important nesting areas for the loggerhead sea turtle. On the far side of the island, Navagio, the shipwreck cove, is best seen from the water; landslides have led to repeated closures and restrictions, so check the current rules before going in.
Before you enter Laganas Bay, know the park rules: - Zone A is closed to all boat traffic. - In zones B and C the limit is 6 knots, and mooring is allowed only in zone C. - Jet skis, water-skiing and recreational fishing are banned all year. - If you meet a turtle, keep at least 15 m away and never approach it head-on.
