What is Ship O’Hoi?
Palairos: a mainland start in the inner Ionian
Palairos is a small town on the Ionian coast of Aetolia-Acarnania, in the Aktio-Vonitsa municipality, and all the boats listed here are based at Marina Paleros, mostly monohulls, with catamarans as well.
Starting on the mainland puts the quieter islands first on the route. Kalamos is the largest of them, with its main harbour at Kalamos village on the east coast and a ferry to Mytikas on the mainland. Next to it, Kastos is 7 km long and only 800 m wide, home to about 40 people in a single village, with two places to moor: the harbour in front of the village and Sarakiniko bay. Kalamos lies in what is described as the largest marine protected area in Greece.
Lefkada's east coast is the other direction. Nydri, the island of Meganisi and the private islands of Skorpios and Madouri face each other across a narrow stretch of water, and Meganisi's ports of Vathy and Spartochori are served by car ferries from Lefkada.
