What is Ship O’Hoi?
Vliho: a closed bay on Lefkada's east coast
The yachts listed here are based in Vliho bay on Lefkada's eastern shore, about 20 km from Lefkada town. Almost all are sailing yachts, from a 32-footer up to a 50-footer, with a catamaran among them.
Vliho village stands on the western shore of the enclosed bay that bears its name. The German archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld, who believed Lefkada was Homer's Ithaca, took the bay for the harbour of Odysseus's town; he excavated at neighbouring Nydri and is buried there. Off Nydri lie the small islands of Madouri, Skorpios, Skorpidi and Sparti, and east across the water is Meganisi, with its harbours at Vathy and Spartochori and a car ferry to Lefkada. Skorpios, the forested island that Aristotle Onassis bought in 1963, is still private and belongs to the municipality of Meganisi. Enjoy its beaches from the boat and do not go ashore.
