Renting a boat in Preveza: questions and answers
What does it cost to rent a boat in Preveza?
Charter yachts cost from €1,250 per week, typically €3,500 per week (121 yachts with a price). Prices vary by date and season, and each boat shows the exact price for your dates.
Can I rent a boat with a skipper in Preveza?
Yes. 8 of the 121 boats on this page can be rented with a skipper or captain, so nobody in your group has to drive.
How many people can come along on a rental boat in Preveza?
The largest boat here takes up to 13 people, and a typical boat takes 10.
Do I need a boat licence in Greece?
Not for a small motorboat: in Greece an outboard of up to 30 hp is licence-free on a conventional hull, but only up to 15 hp on a RIB or V-hull. To charter a yacht bareboat the skipper needs a recognised licence, and the ICC is the safest choice; with a hired skipper nobody on board needs one. Read our full licence guide.

Why start an Ionian charter in Preveza?
Aktion airport (PVK), with direct summer flights from much of Europe, is a few minutes from Cleopatra Marina and about 15 minutes from Preveza through the tunnel under the strait. You can land in the morning and be sailing the same afternoon.
The Lefkada canal lies just south, so the Inland Sea between Lefkada, Meganisi and the mainland is within easy reach on day one.
A week in the Ionian from Preveza
A classic week heads south through the Lefkada canal to Meganisi, Kalamos and Kastos, then on to Ithaca and the north of Kefalonia. Heading north instead, Parga and the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos are a day's sail away; Corfu lies beyond them.
The Ionian is known for gentle conditions: calm mornings and a steady north-westerly breeze, the maistro, most summer afternoons. It is one of the best areas in Greece for a first charter.
Three bases, one page
Boats sail from Preveza's main port, Preveza Marina and Cleopatra Marina at Aktio. All three are listed together here.
Bareboat or with a skipper
For a bareboat charter in Greece, the skipper needs a recognised licence such as the ICC, and a second crew member needs sailing experience. Some Preveza boats can be booked with a skipper. Most boats are chartered by the week, Saturday to Saturday. See all yacht charters in Greece.
Preveza: charter bases on both sides of the strait
Boats listed for Preveza are split between three berths. Most leave from the town quay in Preveza's main port. Others lie in Preveza Marina, a short walk from the centre, with nearly 300 berths and VHF 71. A few are at Cleopatra Marina in Aktio, on the opposite shore, about 1.5 km from Aktion airport. Expect sailboats and catamarans, rented by the week.
Preveza guards the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf, reached through a channel only about 700 m wide between the town and Aktio. There is no bridge overhead: the road crosses underneath in Greece's only undersea tunnel. Inside, the gulf is a national park and a Ramsar-listed wetland, some 40 km long.
Out at sea, two directions are possible: - North along the mainland to Parga, with its hilltop castle and beaches such as Valtos, and on to Paxos and Antipaxos. - South to Lefkada, joined to the mainland by a causeway and a floating bridge at the northern end of its canal.
That bridge is the practical point to plan around. It swings open only at set times, so check the Lefkada port authority's timetable before leaving. The route south continues in our Ionian week from Lefkada.
