On Kefalonia the charter yachts are gathered on the east coast, in the port of Sami, where nearly every boat on this page is based. Sailing yachts make up most of the fleet, with a few catamarans; a catamaran is listed at Agia Pelagia instead.
Sami owes its role to the view from the quay. Ithaca lies directly opposite across the Strait of Ithaca, so its harbours are within easy reach: Vathy in the southern arm of Molos Bay, and Kioni and Frikes on the north-east coast. Staying on the Kefalonia side, Agia Efimia is a short hop north, with ancient amphorae on the seabed, and Fiskardo at the northern tip is one of the few villages that survived the 1953 earthquake. Sami is also a working ferry port, with routes to Lefkada, Astakos, Zakynthos and Patra, so keep a lookout at the harbour entrance. Before sailing, it is worth visiting the Melissani Cave just west of town, an underground lake toured by small boat. The waters around the island are home to loggerhead turtles and Mediterranean monk seals.
