Fana and the Fanafjord by boat
Fana, Bergen's southern district, has its own fjord. The Fanafjord runs 8.5 km in from Korsfjorden to Fanahammeren, about 100 m deep at the mouth and 20 to 45 m at the head.
The owners on this page are spread over southern Bergen and just beyond it: in Fana itself and at Nordvik, at Hjellestad, around Nordåsvannet at Søreide and Søreidgrend, at Os and on Bjørnafjorden, and at Lysekloster on Lysefjorden. Others are in central Bergen. Day cruisers, open boats and cabin cruisers suit a day on the water, and there are sailboats for longer trips.
South of Fana, Lysefjorden leads to Lysøen, the island where the violinist Ole Bull built his summer villa in 1872–73. Bull laid out paths, jetties and viewpoints across the island, and a lookout tower from 1903 gives a view over Lysefjorden and out to Korsfjorden. Two rules apply near the mouth of the fjord. The sounds around Kjeøyna and Husanesholmen are a 5-knot zone, and at Korsnes a military area has a 50 m no-go zone along the shore between Klenevågen and Hendersvika.
