Boating from Bønes on Nordåsvannet
Bønes lies along the west shore of Nordåsvannet, in the southern part of Bergen's Fyllingsdalen borough. Despite the name, Nordåsvannet is not a lake but an arm of the sea of about 5 km², with roughly 20 km of shoreline shared by Fana, Fyllingsdalen and Ytrebygda. Its one opening to the fjords is the tidal sound of Nordåsstraumen at Straume, so the water inside stays sheltered on days when the open fjord is rough.
The boats come from private owners spread across the south of the city: Fana and Hjellestad, Søreide and Straume, plus several berthed nearer the centre. Most are small open boats, bowriders and cabin cruisers made for a day out, with some sailboats and a few owners who can drive the boat for you.
