Renting a boat in Søreide: a sailboat on Grimstadfjorden

Søreide is a neighbourhood of Ytrebygda, south-west of Bergen centre, on the south side of Grimstadfjorden by Dolviken. The name comes from the Old Norse eið, a neck of land between two waters.

A classic cruising sailboat is listed here, rented for at least a week. It has a diesel engine, chartplotter, autopilot and diesel heater, and the owner suggests it for day sails among Bergen's skerries as well as longer holidays along the coast.

At Dolviken, the Nordåsstraumen bridge is a bascule bridge that can be raised so larger boats can get into Nordåsvannet. Heading west, you leave the fjord between Grimstad and Mathopen; keep clear of the prohibited military zone around the Haakonsvern naval base on the north shore. Out in Raunefjorden, the open coast of Sotra and the old trading post at Glesvær lie across the water; see our Bergen boat trips guide.
