Renting a boat near Linköping: the Kinda Canal lakes
Linköping lies on the Stångån river a short way south of Lake Roxen, which is part of the Göta Canal route. From Roxen, the Kinda Canal follows the Stångån south through Linköping to the lakes of Kinda: Ärlången, Stora and Lilla Rängen, Järnlunden at Rimforsa, Ämmern and finally Åsunden, just over 80 km in all.
A speedboat for up to six with a 75 hp engine is listed under Linköping, but its map pin lies about 28 km south of the city, in Kinda municipality, so ask the owner where you board.
The canal climbs 52.5 m through 15 locks at nine places, and the fixed bridges built since 1958 have a minimum clearance of 3.09 m. Freight traffic ended in 1948, and today the canal matters only as a tourist route.
