Søgne's skerries: Høllen and Ny-Hellesund

Søgne merged into Kristiansand in 2020 after decades as an independent coastal municipality, and it is best known for its archipelago. In Søgne itself a roomy old glass-fibre sjekte is listed, let by the weekend or the week. Most of the others are around Kristiansand, with others on Flekkerøy, on Skjernøya near Mandal, and in Lindesnes.

The old trading place Høllen sits at the mouth of the Søgne river. Offshore lies Ny-Hellesund, an old outer harbour and former pilot and customs station in the sound between Monsøya, Kapelløya and Helgøya, with a restored German coastal fort on Helgøya. Further out, Songvår lighthouse on Hellersøy dates from 1888. Friluftsparken i Søgne links public recreation areas such as Helleviga, the Paradisbukt coves and the Langøyene islets. Family beaches elsewhere in the city are in our guide to Kristiansand's beaches by boat.

Take it slowly between the islands. There are marked 5-knot zones at Høllen and Ny-Hellesund all year, and an electric route boat runs between the two.
