Renting a boat on Skjernøya: a cabin cruiser berthed at Tregde
Skjernøya lies just south of Mandal in Lindesnes, with about 400 people spread across Dyrstad, Skjernøysund, Valvik, Farestad and Rossnes. Until the early 1700s the island was called Mølø. To get from Farestad to Rossnes you cross a suspension footbridge 110 m long and just 80 cm wide.
The boat on this page is placed at Rossnes, but its owner keeps it on a permanent berth at Tregde Marina on the mainland, about 3 km to the north-east. The marina lies at Ramsvoa, not in the old fishing and pilot village of Tregde itself. It is a cabin cruiser that sleeps four to five, with a galley, fridge and bathing platform, rented by the week from Sunday to Sunday.
The marina has a swimming pool and a restaurant, and the owner points out the short run out to the skerries. A tide gauge at Tregde was once the fundamental point for Norway's NN1954 height system, and the waters around Skjernøy are known for rich birdlife.
