Svenevig on the Remesfjorden
Svenevig, also written Svennevik, is a village of about 390 people in Lindesnes, on Svennevikbukta, a bay on the east side of the Remesfjorden. A small dinghy with a 20 hp outboard is kept here, which its owner describes as a boat for trips out into the skerries or for fishing. The others are a stable open fishing boat in Mandal and a fast sportsboat in Lindesnes that goes out only with its owner.
The Remesfjorden runs almost 4 km north from its entrance between Østre Imsa, with the Imsa light, and Finnøya. Just east of the mouth lies Svinør, an old outport that, as the nearest larger harbour east of the exposed Lindesnes cape, often gave ships shelter from storms. The name Svennevik probably comes from an old word for the sea dying down, which fits a farm at the head of a calm bay.
