Norheimsund on the Hardangerfjord
Norheimsund is the trading centre of outer Hardanger, about 74 km east of Bergen by road. Its centre, known as Grova, burned down in October 1932 and was rebuilt in functionalist style, which still shapes the streets behind the quay. During the Second World War the occupying forces built large defences facing the fjord here.
A sailing yacht with two cabins and four berths, equipped for a sailing holiday, is based in Norheimsund. A day cruiser for five lies a short way east along the fjord at Øystese.
Norheimsund is also a transport hub, with scheduled boats to Utne and Odda, so expect passenger boats at the quay. For routes further into the fjord, see our Hardangerfjord boating guide.
