Renting a boat for Ullensvang: sailing up to the Sørfjord

Ullensvang, formed in 2020 from Odda, Jondal and the old Ullensvang, covers inner Hardanger on both sides of the Sørfjord, with Odda as its centre. The 38 km fjord runs south from its mouth between Utne and Kinsarvik to Odda, past fruit farms whose orchards blossom in May.

No boat is kept in Ullensvang itself. The nearest listing is a sailing yacht with four berths in two cabins, moored in Norheimsund, in neighbouring Kvam. From there Utne, at the tip of the Folgefonna peninsula, is about 15 nm up the Hardangerfjord. Lofthus lies about 6 nm further south along the Sørfjord, and Kinsarvik about 4 nm across from Utne. Our Hardangerfjord guide describes the whole trip.

Before you pick mussels, note that Mattilsynet, Norway's food authority, warns people not to eat shellfish gathered in the Sørfjord inside a line from Grimo to Krossanes, because of old industrial pollution from Odda.
