Laksevåg: across Puddefjorden from the city
Laksevåg was a municipality of its own until 1972 and is now the Bergen borough west of the centre. Its waterfront faces Puddefjorden, the 3.5 km arm of Byfjorden that runs in from the tip of Nordnes, and the city centre is just across the water.
The owners behind these listings keep their boats all over Bergen: near the centre, down in Fana and Hjellestad, at Straume and Søreide, and over on Askøy. There are small open boats, RIBs and bowriders, family cabin cruisers, sailboats and a few skippered options.
Two speed zones matter on your first trip from here. Puddefjorden has an 8-knot limit inside a line from Georgernes to Laksevåg, and in Vågen, the old harbour by Bryggen on the far side of Nordnes, 5 knots is the maximum.
Heading out, Byfjorden's main ship channel runs past Kvarven, the headland where a mountain fort once guarded the approach to Bergen. Above the borough rises Lyderhorn, one of the seven mountains around Bergen, which has long served sailors as a landmark from the fjord. Our Bergen boat trips guide describes an evening loop from Vågen out to Kvarven and back.
