Florvåg: Askøy's side of Byfjorden
Florvåg is a village on the east side of Askøy, along county road 563, looking straight across Byfjorden towards Bergen. The name goes back a long way: the Battle of Florvåg was fought here in 1194.
A boat is listed in Florvåg itself; the others are private owners' boats elsewhere on Askøy and on the other shores of the fjords, in Bergen, Hordvik and Frekhaug, ranging from small open boats up to cabin cruisers, plus a few sailboats.
Byfjorden is the water right outside. It runs 16 km along the south and east sides of Askøy, continues from Hjeltefjorden and ends in the heart of Bergen. The short crossing takes you to Vågen, the city harbour below Bryggen, where Bergen Havn has guest berths for around 100 leisure boats and a 5-knot limit applies.
This is busy water. Kleppestø, the municipal centre just south of Florvåg, is the quay for the express boat that runs between Askøy and Bergen, and Byfjorden is the final approach for ships heading into the city.
