Renting a boat for the Pontine Islands: a one-way sailing week
The Pontine Islands lie in the Tyrrhenian Sea off Lazio, in two groups 22 nautical miles apart: Ponza, Palmarola, Zannone and Gavi to the north-west, Ventotene and Santo Stefano to the south-east. Only Ponza and Ventotene are inhabited, and Palmarola lies about 10 km west of Ponza.
The sailing trimaran listed here is not based on the islands. It is offered for a one-way sailing week that boards at Riva di Traiano near Civitavecchia and ends in Amalfi. The first leg is the long one, about 85 nm and some 12 hours to Palmarola. From there the route runs 9 nm to Ponza and 25 nm to Ventotene, then on to Procida, Ischia, Capri and Positano. Sailing is by day only, and the owner says no previous experience is needed. Check the listing for upcoming departures.
Ventotene and Santo Stefano are land and sea conservation areas with their own rules. For a route that starts closer, from Marina di Nettuno, see our guide to the Pontine Islands.
