Punta Ala: a Tuscan marina facing Elba
Almost every yacht on this page is berthed in Marina di Punta Ala, the tourist port at the foot of the Punta Ala promontory on the Gulf of Follonica. A breakwater shelters its 885 berths, 70 of them kept for boats in transit, and the quays have 2–4 m of water. A catamaran is based about 10 km further up the coast, at Marina di Scarlino in Puntone.
What you rent here is a sailing yacht or a catamaran for the week, mostly mid-sized cruising boats.
Punta Ala belongs to Castiglione della Pescaia, and its sea opens straight onto the Tuscan Archipelago. Close to Punta Ala lies the small Isolotto dello Sparviero. West across the water is Elba, the largest island of the archipelago, with Portoferraio as its main town and Monte Capanne rising to 1,018 m. How a week from Punta Ala can run is shown in our Elba and Tuscan Archipelago route.
Two details for handover day: the harbour mouth is at the northern end of the breakwater and can be used around the clock, and the control tower answers on VHF channels 9 and 16. The marina has flown the Blue Flag every year since 1990.
