Renting a boat for the Espoo archipelago
Kept in Espoo itself is a cabin boat with a wooden superstructure, whose owner mentions fuel and a pump-out in its home harbour. The others lie along the Helsinki shore, among other places in the Merisatama harbour in Ullanlinna, so a day among Espoo's islands often begins with a run west along the coast.
Espoo has 26 marinas on the sea with about 5,500 berths, and a string of recreational islands open to everyone, among them Iso Vasikkasaari, Rövaren, Gåsgrund, Stora Herrö and Pentala. Pentala, at around 130 hectares one of the largest islands in Espoo, has the archipelago museum on its north-east shore and Diksand, a natural sandy beach inside a nature reserve, on its south-east side. Our Espoo archipelago guide sets out six routes.
Check where you can tie up before you go. Gåsgrund has a harbour with public berths on its north-east shore, while Rövaren has no public pier at all, only mooring rings fixed in the rock.
