Vihti lies about 45 km from Helsinki on the road to Turku, and 45 km² of the municipality is water. The lake Hiidenvesi lies close to Nummela and Vihti church village.

Hiidenvesi is 16.5 km long but averages only 6.7 m deep, with its deepest point at 29.4 m. The open water off Nummela is Nummelanselkä, where Papinsaari island is a nature reserve, and the bay north of it is one wide shallow. Since 2009 a lock in the Väänteenjoki river has linked Hiidenvesi to Lohjanjärvi by boat. The lake also has its own sailing club.
