Boats in Merisatama and along Helsinki's shore

The boats listed for Helsinki are private owners' boats kept in the city. A diesel cabin cruiser lies in Merisatama in Ullanlinna, a small-boat harbour at the southern tip of the city ringed by yacht clubs, with about 1,200 berths shared between the clubs and the city. A chain of rocky islands, the Uunisaaret, Liuskasaari and Sirpalesaari, shelters it from the open Gulf of Finland. The other owners keep their boats elsewhere along the city shore, and a boat is in Espoo. Day cruisers and a centre-console boat make up most of the choice, and the cabin cruiser sleeps up to six.

From Merisatama, the beaches of Pihlajasaari, the island of Vallisaari and the fortress islands of Suomenlinna are all close by, and water buses also run to Pihlajasaari from here. Our five Helsinki archipelago trips describe them in more detail.

Keep out of the way in the Kustaanmiekka strait between Suomenlinna and Vallisaari. It is only 81 m wide, it bends in an S, and the large car and passenger ferries leaving the South Harbour pass through it.
