Vigo: sailing from the Real Club Náutico
Every boat on this page leaves from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, the city's yacht club, whose clubhouse has stood in the centre of Vigo since 1945. Most are cruising sailing yachts for the week, with a small keelboat and a few motor boats, including a flybridge cruiser.
The Ría de Vigo is the deepest and southernmost of the Rías Baixas, 35 km long from Cabo Silleiro at its mouth to Arcade, and only 600 m wide at the Rande strait. Inside lie the islands of Toralla and San Simón, the latter now uninhabited in the inlet of the same name, after serving as a monastery, a lazaretto and a prison. The mouth is guarded by the Cíes Islands, Monteagudo, Montefaro and San Martiño, part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park, and Baiona sits on its own bay just to the south. Our Rías Baixas and Cíes route builds a week around them.
Sort out the paperwork before heading for the Cíes: navigating and anchoring in national-park waters needs written authorisation under Law 15/2002, so ask the charter company about the park permits when you book.
