Svelvik at the Svelvikstrømmen narrows
Svelvik is a small town on Svelvikstrømmen, the strait that joins the Drammensfjord to the rest of the Oslofjord, and it now belongs to Drammen municipality. Svelvik has a few boats of its own on the page, open boats, a day cruiser and a pilothouse boat, while other owners are along the fjord in Drammen and Holmestrand, at Sætre and in Asker, at Fagerstrand and on Nesodden, and in Drøbak and Frogn.
The town has a municipal guest pier, open from 1 April to 31 October, and Svelvik Motorbåtforening lies beside Batteriøya, a small green island with a lighthouse just south-west of the centre. For a swim, Knemstranda is a gently shelving public beach about 1 km south of town, and Bergerbukta at Berger has a natural sand beach on the coastal path. The Svelvik–Verket crossing is counted as Norway's shortest car-ferry route.
Take the current seriously. The strait is 2.8 km long and only about 180 m wide, and the outgoing stream can reach 5 knots, so plan passages with it rather than against it in a small boat.
