Renting a boat in Mosjøen: a catamaran offered from Sandnessjøen

Mosjøen is the oldest town on Helgeland and lies at the head of the Vefsnfjorden. The fjord runs some 50–60 km in from Tjøtta on the south side of Alsten and meets the Leirfjorden at Sundøy. Along the water, Sjøgata keeps its 19th-century wooden houses and wharves, and the town's harbour is one of the largest in Northern Norway. Ferries serve the villages along the fjord, so keep an eye out for them near the quays.

The sailing catamaran listed under Mosjøen is not handed over in town: its owner offers it from Sandnessjøen, about 71 km to the west by road. Sandnessjøen is the regional centre of outer Helgeland, on the island of Alsten, and is known as the town below the Seven Sisters (Sju søstre) mountain range.

For a catamaran's mast, note that the Helgelandsbrua, which links Alsten with the mainland across the Leirfjorden, has 45 m sailing height.
