Portorosa: a canal marina in the Gulf of Patti
Furnari's boats are all at Portorosa, a marina built into a network of canals roughly 4 km long on the Gulf of Patti, on Sicily's north coast between Capo Tindari and Capo Milazzo. It takes around 650 boats from 6 to 35 m and has held a Blue Flag since 1993. Monohulls and catamarans are found in roughly equal measure, chartered by the week.
Close by to the west, below the sanctuary on the headland of Tindari, lie the Laghetti di Marinello, a nature reserve of brackish lagoons whose shape changes with the sea. To the east, the Capo Milazzo peninsula has been a marine protected area since 2018, so check its zones before stopping to swim or anchor there.
Straight ahead across the gulf are the Aeolian Islands, with Vulcano and Lipari the nearest. The crossing is the one open-water leg of most weeks from here, so time it for the morning and a settled forecast.
