Forsand, at the mouth of Lysefjorden
Forsand, part of Sandnes since 2020, lies where Lysefjorden branches off Høgsfjorden. A small 12-foot open boat with a 9.9 hp engine is listed here, and its owner notes that no boat licence is needed to drive it. Another small open boat, listed under Sandnes, is also on the map at Forsand. The others are in Sandnes, including a pilothouse boat for skippered salmon trolling in Frafjord, Dirdal and Espedal. According to one Sandnes owner, fuel for the trip up the fjord is best taken at Forsand.
Lysefjorden runs 42 km from Forsand and Oanes to Lysebotn, below Preikestolen and Kjerag, and is 456 m deep. At its mouth a sill lies only about 13 m below the surface, and the Lysefjord bridge gives 50 m clearance. Watch for the car ferry that crosses Høgsfjorden between Oanes and Lauvik twice an hour. Lysefjorden is the first of our five half-day routes around Stavanger.
