Sandnes at the head of the Gandsfjord
Sandnes grew up at the innermost point of the Gandsfjord, and the town centre sits just west of Vågen, the very end of the fjord. Some of the boats shown are kept in the municipality: small open boats and a day cruiser in and near the town, and others further east towards Hommersåk. The remainder belong to owners in Stavanger, on Hundvåg and Vassøy and in Tananger, so look at the pickup place on each listing before you book.
The fjord splits the landscape in two. Its western shore is built up all the way north, past Forus and Jåttåvågen, where Condeep oil platforms were once assembled, to Hillevåg and Stavanger. The eastern side stays steep and green, with Dalsnuten rising to 323 m. Further out the fjord opens among islands such as Vassøy, Lindøy and Hellesøy, with Horgefjorden to the north and the mouth of Høgsfjorden to the east, the way towards Lysefjorden.
