Sarpsborg's coast: Skjebergkilen and Singlefjorden

Sarpsborg's shoreline lies south of the town, around Skjebergkilen, the fjord arm locals call the Sarpsborg Riviera. A large share of the municipality's cabins and boat berths are here, and a listed family cabin cruiser is moored here too. Other owners are further up the inlet at Høysand and Skjeberg, at Rolvsøy, in Fredrikstad and on Kråkerøy, and on the Hvaler islands. The choice runs from a youth boat and a jet ski to pilothouse boats, a sailing yacht and a big motor yacht.

Skjebergkilen runs just under 5 km north from its mouth between Askholmen and Brudeskjæret. Outside, it becomes Singlefjorden, and around Singløya four fjord arms meet. From the outer islands at Søndre Karlsøy and Dusa, the first Swedish jetties are about a quarter of an hour away at 20 knots, Skjærhalden in Hvaler about half an hour and Koster and Strömstad under an hour. Agree any crossing into Sweden with the owner first. Staying in Norway, our guide to Hvaler covers the islands to the west.

A single speed rule covers Sarpsborg's whole sea area: no more than 5 knots when you are within 150 m of the shore or of any islet or skerry you can see. In an inlet this narrow and this built-up, that means most of the way out.
