Skjeberg and the head of Skjebergkilen
The village of Skjeberg lies on farmland about 12 km south of Sarpsborg centre, and its waterfront is the inner end of Skjebergkilen. The nearest boats are there: an open boat at Skjeberg Marina, with, as its owner puts it, direct access to the fjord, a small youth boat and a jet ski listed under Skjeberg, and a pilothouse boat at Høysand Marina. The rest are around Sarpsborg, Fredrikstad, Kråkerøy and Rolvsøy, and in Hvaler.
Høysand, at the very head of the inlet, has a popular sandy beach, a large campsite and an association-owned boat harbour. Further out, Kjerringholmen is the inlet's only islet, sitting where the water widens about a kilometre inside the mouth.
The wetland between Høysand and Kvastebyen is Skjebergkilen nature reserve, a stopover for migrating ducks and waders. All traffic on its water and shallows is banned from 1 April to 31 May and from 15 August to 30 September, so keep to the open inlet then.
